Building a Skincare Routine


Great skin is not simply a matter of DNA. Your daily habits have a huge impact on what you see in the mirror. Depending on what product reviews you read or specialists that consult you, there is an overwhelming number of opinions in terms of skincare out there. Ultimately, caring for your skin simply comes down to personal preference. Here’s what you should keep in mind as you sort through all the options.

Three Main Steps

Think of your skin care routine as consisting of three main steps:

Cleansing — Washing your face. 

Toning — Balancing the skin.

Moisturising — Hydrating and softening the skin.

The goal of any skincare routine is to ensure your complexion is functioning at its best, also to target any areas you want to work on. As your skin functions change with age, so will your products. It’s not about creating perfection, its about creating a healthy environment for your skin cells to function. Allow these three steps to become your daily ritual that fortifies your skin foundations.

Give it Time

The science behind skincare products has come a long way but there’s still no such thing as an instant fix. You need time to see the physical benefits. Results are only seen through consistent use. Kind of like going to the gym and eating healthy. If you are consistent with your nutrition you will most certainly see change. Generally, aim to use a product over at least six to twelve weeks once or twice a day, to notice a difference.  

Tip: With any skin-care product, apply in order of consistency — from thinnest to thickest. For example, cleanser, toner (if you use it), serum, and then moisturiser.
